@Blackeye: Well, these assumtions might be wrong by a factor of 10.
Coming up with those ideas still deploys the same kind of impression:
LFS needs better distribution and public relation.
Wheater it is 12 Euros or 42 Euros, wheater it is LFS S2 + new content or LFS S3,
wheater it is 1000 or 7000 active gamers at the moment.
It should be 500000 new players to stay up with big developers
and CUSTOMERS from the industry (VW or whosoever...)
This can be communicated to the DEVs of LFS:
You guys lack communication with Your customers!
Some truth would probably (even if there was reason for some exitement)
bring those voices to a hold, that are shooting wild on the forums about
disappoinments etc., just like me...
(Even: Guys, we are ajusting our stategie according to the development of concurrence products, so we have to keep our cards hidden...would be more communication than what is (not) taking place for quied a while now)
You are all right! I am frustrated with LFS not being developed, and yes this thread (and where it has been moved to) has nothing to do with communism.
And Yes I would like to get some statement from the devs that discloses the big picture!
"Cave! is a good word, "bunker" might be good as well!
Who is still on the Dev-Team? Are they working on LFS on a regular bases or not?
I think: the number of active players is way too little to release all that worthy content (if it exists).
They need partners to get the Public Relations done proper, it´s not so easy.
If 1000 active gamers pay, let´s say 30 Euros each for some extra content that makes 30000 Euro. That is 15000 after tax. That means 5000 Euros each,
lets be honest, that is nothing for the work involved.
LFS needs a strategic partner with resources and so on... in order to be sold to hundretsthousends of people and eventually millions!
Good PR, professional marketing, that is what our DEFS are in need of,
aren´t they?
I thought communism was over in Czechia and everybody was allowed to examine the truth there as well.
What do You expect from Your currying favour?
We were not promised something, go look at lfs.net and scroll down:
I quote from Dec 11th 2008
Really, in times of "occupy wallstreet, the arabian spring, african freedom movement, reajustment in all the countries, the think that hurts me most ist this submissive argument, that comes from totalitarian societies!
I am ready to pay! Sell us the content! Let us drive Scirocco! Let us drive in Rockingham...
If You cannot...turn LFS into OPEN SOURCE an get yourself some other community to... whatever that is called!!!
We all cannot crasp what really is going on with LFS since the christmass of 2008, when we were promised an additional car (VW-Scirocco) and at about 2009 a new original/real track (Rockingham).
Why are we not being sold an addon (for money)?
I don´t know the truth BUT I have a guess!
PLEASE HAVE A GUESS AS WELL and if you are an developer of LFS,
please speak out...
My guess is:
First VW did all of a sudden not want to pay for implementing the car into
LFS, for what reasons so ever!
While Rockingham and the new tyre-physics were developed the DEVs found out that the community is
TOO LITTLE to earn enough money with the update/addon/newVersion.
I don´t think the technical/programmining development of LFS is stuck, I think that the distribution and Public Relation project of Live for Speed is
stuck!
Nowadays DEVS of all kinds have bloogs about progress and so on.
Actually, when the Scirocco was first announced I didn`t know the word
bloog...hehe.
To say this: I don´t find anything wrong with trying to earn money on your products. REALLY!!!
I think selling S3 to the active (lets say) 1000 Drivers, who would buy it immedeately would bring approx. 50000 Euros. That is nothing for three guys, for all that work. really really!
They need very good settings for the launch. Partners. Public relations.
I am shure they don´t want to play roulette on this issue.
I can give the DEVS the telefonnumber of RedBull, maybe THEY have some ideas...like:
A public league with RedBull-TV involved and such...
I would like to habe 120 full servers on my screen. LFS is ready for that...
When the Devs have figured a apropriate financing/sponsoring - model I´m affraid...
I think they are still looking for a big comercial partner. VW obviously did´nt play the game to the end... I guess.
How many active players are there? a few hundret, not more. Not enough to pay the development. Take a piece of paper and calculate. They need a big big brother to get further with this beautyfull project.
With approx. 200 - 400 licenced racers online at a given time, many on private servers,
many on drift-servers, the number of servers that can be "alive" a lot is limited.
Although banned from nl for a while, it may be the fact, that you successfull server-owners would do good in
LAYOUT - CONTESTING
for your servers! This might bring some live into the layouting - ambitions
and results.
I have seen VERY nice layouts allready and it would be great if a number of them showed up in successfull servers!
For a change it is not with the speed of lfs-development, but with the lfs-racing community:
I would have expected some of the existing or maybe some new server-owners with some sort of concept for practicable layout racing on XY-courses.
Instead I see some cruise und drift - expierencers horizonts broadened,
(REALLY great for cruisers and drifters), but NOTHING new in the well
visited racing servers.
I have tried out on some very clever layouts, even on servers with automatic rotation and a lot of smart Aerio-Support, but not enough
drivers have shown up to keep those servers "alive".
The pressure on the well established racing-servers to think over layouts
is zero through that lack of curious layout-drivers.
What could help to increase the possiblity of active racing on new track
layouts: A layout contest - homepage/forum maybe?
I remember starting with LFS in 2005 with my keyboard. I knew most other drivers were faster with their wheels, so I saved some money and got me a momo.
The first results were disillusioning. I was not faster
in the first place.
I needed some practice and some new car-setups, and
I had to reinvent my driving style.
It took me quiet long to change from understeering to
the benfits of a dendency to oversteering in the months,
maybe years to come...
But, yes, the better wheels are faster, after all: The more control you have, the better the results are, in the long run...
